Day 4 (Last Day😢)of the Middle School DC Trip. We visited Mt. Vernon today and toured George Washington's homesite. The students were engaged and saw a truly historic site. The last 4 days were exhausting, but so worth it! We can't thank #WorldClassrooms enough for providing an opportunity for our students to experience such an awesome city. The students expanded their learning and have definitely checked off some bucket list items. We are already starting to plan our next trip for the summer of 2025! If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to Mr. Brandon Bakken (Brandon.bakken@albany.k12.wi.us)

Day 3....Middle School Washington DC Trip! We travelled to Gettysburg today. We enjoyed the museum, the cyclorama, and had a guided tour around the battlefield. Our guide was spectacular and really made the tour fun and educational. In the afternoon we explored the FDR and MLK memorials. The day was capped off with an evening out in the National Harbor area. It was truly a great day and another wonderful experience for our students and parents! #WorldClassrooms

Day 2 of our Middle School DC Trip! What a day...Arlington National Cemetery, White House, and a US Capitol Tour. We ended our day at the Lincoln Memorial, Vietnam Memorial, and the Korean War Memorial. The kids are having a blast and making memories that will last a lifetime! #WorldClassrooms

Building card towers has really tested our problem solving, creativity and patience. We tried different strategies and even practiced multiple days to be successful. Great job showing perseverance!

Summer school students in PE and Wilderness Literature went on another adventure during the final week of summer school -a fishing trip! As Mr. Olsen reminded students, "It's called fishing, not catching, because you don't always catch something." 🎣

Day 1 of the Middle School Washington DC trip is in the books! We left at 1:45am this morning and have been busy all day. Some of the highlights include the Jefferson Memorial, Holocaust Museum, Washington Monument, and several others. We can't wait for day 2! #WorldClassrooms

TEAM work makes the DREAM work!

Creativity, collaboration, and problem solving were just a few of the skills that were built in Lots of Legos. The best part of this class, though, was that the kids didn't realize how much they were learning through their play.

The Building with Buddies summer school class had another busy week. We built with lots of things which included gears, marbles and even a 500 piece puzzle of rain boots. The puzzle took us several classes over multiple days. Keep working together!

Students in Mr. Olsen's and Mrs. Nienhaus's summer school classes went in a hiking adventure! They spent the morning hiking and exploring the Robert O. Cook Memorial Arboretum just outside of Janesville. It was a perfect day for a hiking adventure!

The Pleasant Prairie Greenhouse is having their sale of annual plants at their Albany location starting today, Monday, June 19th. The annual plants are 25% off and this sale runs through Sunday, June 25th. Like last year, Pleasant Prairie Greenhouse is providing 50% of their sale of annual plants at the Albany site to Albany Schools' Comets Care Pack Program.
The Comets Care Pack Program provides confidential food to students in each school with no questions asked. Food insecurity remains a significant issue among our students, so please consider purchasing some flowers to brighten up your yard while supporting these programs.
Pleasant Prairie Greenhouse not only has high-quality flowers, plants, and trees but generously donates to our community.
Thank you Pleasant Prairie Greenhouse!

The Albany HS boys & girls basketball coaches hosted their COMET YOUTH BASKETBALL CAMPS during the week of June 5th - June 8th. Approximately 65 youth basketball players attended the four-day camp. Players improved their basketball fundamentals while having fun with competitions and showing their COMET determination. A special thanks also go out to the EASTWOOD FAMILY & FLOORS FOR LESS of Brodhead, Wisconsin for sponsoring the camp shirts!
GO COMETS!

Students had another busy week of Building with Buddies.

Students in today's Lots of Legos class were challenged to build something with 120 Legos. All small groups of kids were given the same set of Legos and asked to build whatever they wished. It's amazing how different each Lego creation was!

Students in Intro to Film summer school class got to be Foley Artists today, as they attempted to recreate sounds for a movie using common household items. Did you know most of the audio in a movie is re-recorded post-production? And that includes dialogue!

Camp Comets & Sports Camps are off to a great start! Thanks to all of the students & families who are participating this year. Camp Comets will continue Monday through Thursday until June 29th. Basketball camp wrapped up on Thurs. 6/ 8th, and Volleyball Camp will run from 19-22.
